Isle of the Abbey

Yaakov, Lamech, Grandinar and Moishe were hired by Prefect Anders Solmor and the Makrinod Navy to explore a small island in the Shimmare that would be the site of a lighthouse and garrison to protect Saltmarsh from assault by sea, especially the sahuagin threat and find the source of the undead threat that occupied it.

The island was only approachable from the southern beach, as the rest of the island stood upon tall cliffs surrounded by half-submerged rocks that made it difficult for ships to approach.

The island was home to an abbey dedicated to Apéthanta and operated by a death cult that collected and paid for any corpses brought to them. When the navy found out that local pirates they were rousting out of their hideouts and safe ports were allied with the cultists they pursued them there. The pirates, apparently seeking succor from their allies, were betrayed and instead were massacred by seemingly endless undead on the beach. While they managed to cut their way through, though in diminished numbers, the pirates burned down the abbey in revenge and to their knowledge killed all the cultists. However, now unable to gain the safety they sought they returned to their ship only to be wiped out by the waiting navy. When the marines landed to take the island and look for survivors they were overwhelmed by the undead. So retreating, they awaited off shore and the adventurers were brought in to deal with it.

Landing on the beach, Yaakov summoned his holy mount, a camel he named [name], and after Moishe and Grandinar dealt with a pair of zombie pirates up the beach, the paladin used his mount to climb to the top of tall sand dunes and point out a path around the dunes he thought the pirates had cut a swathe through the skeletons buried in the sand. While the party had to fight some small groups of skeletons, they avoided the largest waves and made it to the ridge that marked the lower beach and separated from the upper area where he abbey ruins were located amid barren batches of grass, rocky terrain, and a few sparse tree copses.

Along the way they rescued a pirated name Yorick Bass who was suffering from exposure and wounds from fighting skeletons, stuck in a spot where he could move in no direction without drawing the attention of more undead.
